Varian Semi Tumbles on Weak September Quarter Outlook

Varian Semiconductor (VSEA), maker of ion implant tools used to make semiconductors, warned this afternoon that sales for its fiscal fourth quarter, ended September, would be well short of expectations.

For its third quarter, results were in line, with revenue of $182.6 million and profits of 25 cents a share, compared with Street expectations of $181.2 million and 25 cents.
