Almost Famous Update: Now-Out-of-Beta Brizzly Hires Facebooker and Translates Tweets

Brizzly, the Web-based Twitter client from Thing Labs, covered in Almost Famous two weeks ago, begins public beta today.

In addition to opening its “expanded” Twitter interface to the world at large, the start-up is offering an on-the-fly translation tool for foreign tweets. And it has hired former FriendFeeder and current Facebooker Ben Darnell.

This Is How Social Media Really Works

Earlier this month, my wife and I were thinking of what to get our daughter for her upcoming fourth birthday, and upgrading her small plastic swingset that she was outgrowing was high on our list. I had started scouting around the Web trying to find companies that did custom playground stuff that wasn’t just huge because we don’t have a ton of room in our yard. Everyone thinks bigger is better, but I was looking for smarter, for small spaces.

The Techmeme-Killer or the Google Reader-Killer?

I just switched all my home pages off of Techmeme to FriendFeed.

I find that Techmeme has become a Google News killer. All I see on it is big media companies (including me, who works at Fast Company).

On top of my FriendFeed right now are people I don’t know. No A-listers. I’m not there.

Because the site is wholly owned by Dow Jones, publisher of The Wall Street Journal, we aim to adhere to the journalistic standards of the best of the mainstream media.
