Amazon: Little Threat From Target, Says JP Morgan

Target’s decision today to build out its e-commerce infrastructure won’t likely hurt Amazon.com, writes J.P. Morgan analyst Imran Khan in a note to clients. In fact, it could help.

Target announced today it would construct its own order-fulfillment services for its online sales, which totaled $1.8 billion last year, according to Khan’s estimate, signalling the end of its use of Amazon’s back-office fulfillment services, for which Amazon receives a fee.

Tying the Hyperlocal Knot

The Knot is launching 75 new localized sites in the hopes of reaching brides-to-be from Tampa to Tucson.

David Liu, CEO of the wedding Web site, said the idea is to provide the “ingredients” that people planning weddings seek out. Brides are best served by content available in their specific location, he said. Likewise, wedding vendors want to advertise in bridal outlets that target a region.

Apple, Amazon Top E-Commerce Traffic, Says ComScore

ComScore last night published its statistics of U.S. visits to shopping Web sites from home and work, and found that Apple and Amazon had the biggest jump in unique visitors for the period from Nov. 1 to Dec. 23. (Dec. 23 is selected by comScore as the last day shoppers could buy online with hopes of getting deliveries in time for Christmas.)
