Velti Acquires Mobile-Ad Firm

Consolidation in the mobile ad industry continued on Tuesday when London-based mobile marketing company Velti announced its acquisition of AdInfuse, a small San Francisco mobile ad technology firm. Terms of the all-cash deal were not disclosed.

Startup Tries to Rally Publishers with Ad-Sharing Proposal

A Silicon Valley startup and handful of publishers have a new plan to bring peace to the war between Web sites and media companies accusing them of stealing their content.

The group, which includes Reuters and smaller online publishers like Politico, wants companies that broker advertising to Web sites to give them a share of the revenue from ads they sell alongside full copies of their content.

Rep. Boucher Calls for Internet Ad Regulation

In an interview Friday, Rep. Rick Boucher, (D-Va.) called for Congress to take a tougher stance in regulating online ad-targeting, despite the FTC’s endorsement of industry self-regulation.
“I am coming to believe (industry self-regulation) is not sufficient,” said Rep. Boucher, chairman of the House subcommittee on communications, technology and the Internet. He noted that there is a need for a set of laws that dictate parameters for how companies collect, share and use online data about their consumers.

Dell Gains Stand Out as Server Sales Rise 12.2 Percent

Worldwide server sales rose 12.2 percent, year over year, to 2.3 million units, in the second quarter, declares research firm Gartner (IT) in a note today, while revenue was up 5.7 percent for a total of $13.8 billion.
